1. The camera takes a slide of the building. That slide is used as a reference to draw and paint the watercolor.

2. The camera transfers the painting back to a chrome/slide or 4 x 5.

3. The slide is scanned into a digital file and put on a CD.

4. The digital file is meticulously repainted with a digital pressure sensitive pen and pad.

5. The re-painted digital file is sent to be made into an Iris print on watercolor paper.

6. The finished print is worked over with different combinations of pastels, color pencil , watercolor, and /or acrylic.

With new forms of capturing and producing imagery, there may be another additional layer to add to revisiting and revising the image.

Usually I do rough sketches from scanned or digital images by putting them up on a computer screen and arranging and rearranging them . The rough sketches are used as guide to make the painting. The mixed print is usually the result of the actual painting.

A twist to this is to not even do the painting. Spend the time and energy to do a finished (rough) sketch then work over it with acrylic.

The surf series is a combination of 2 to 3 photographs that are digitally painted to merge them and all the surfaces together in the computer. Every square inch is reworked with a pressure sensitive pen and pad. Water areas as well as people are added and edited. The large file is then printed with pigmented inks on canvas. I then touch them up with acrylics ; each piece is unique.
