The Old Moloka'i Fire Station is a classic image reminiscent of the quiet small-town feel of some of the outer islands which still has no traffic lights. The weather-worn wood framed building stood by itself next to a large open field just outside of Kaunakakai town. The new contemporary fire house, complete with chartreuse/yellow fire engine colors, has been relocated along the main street just mauka of the popular softball field.
I have traveled to Moloka'i more often than all the other islands; my mother's family once lived there and the hunting/fishing /country lifestyle is so attractive. dy . |
